Short Bio: RLS-UK is a small UK charity set up to raise awareness of Restless Legs Syndrome, the most common neurological disease in the world.
Activity: RLS-UK is trying to improve medical awareness, teaching and research for Restless Legs Syndrome, a common disease affecting up to 10% of the population. We are trying to stop the prescription of dopamine agonists as first line treatment because of the very high rates of drug-induced worsening (augmentation) and Impulse Control Disorder. These cause immense suffering and distress to RLS patients. Iron infusions should be first line treatment. We want RLS to be taught at every medical school in the UK and during GP training. We are also trying to arrange trials of low dose buprenorphine for refractory RLS to allow GPs and neurologists to prescribe it throughout the UK.
