United Kingdom 2024: NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Mental Health Improvement Team | NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde

Delegate: NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Mental Health Improvement Team

Affiliation: NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde

Short Bio: The Mental Health Improvement Team are a Greater Glasgow and Clyde Board wide team who support our colleagues and partners across the six Health and Social Care Partnership areas; Glasgow City, Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire, West Dunbartonshire, East Dunbartonshire and Inver Clyde to deliver on the public mental health agenda.

Our work spans across the life course, from infant and maternal health through to older adults and is underpinned by:

Tackling poverty
Disadvantage and inequalities
Eliminating discrimination
Promoting and protecting human rights.

Activity: As a small team (3 staff) equipping our colleagues and partners with knowledge, skills and resources is key if we are to meaningfully deliver on the public mental health agenda in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

World Sleep Day 2024, was an ideal opportunity to theme one of our monthly mental health snippets on the topic of sleep and help recognize the close relationship between sleep and mental health. Our snippet can be accessed at: https://www.nhsggc.scot/downloads/nhsggc-mental-health-improvement-team-february-2024-snippet/

Our monthly snippets are circulated to over 1000 colleagues and partners from across Greater Glasgow and Clyde and share a wealth of information, resources and learning opportunities on mental health and issues that can impact on mental health such as sleep. Partners are encouraged to share the snippet with their own networks.

To mark World Sleep Day 2024, our snippet shared a wealth of information on sleep resources and supports across the life course. We also included information on two learning opportunities; a free online course, teaching people about the benefits of healthy sleep and how to improve their sleep routine and team’s own Sleep and Mental Health Healthy Minds session, a free downloadable resource.

As well as circulating through our networks, we also used our Twitter (X) @Ayemind99 account to share our snippet and participate in World Sleep Day 2024. With over 2K followers our snippet was seen 1,388 times.

As a small team, with no budget we have to be creative as to how we best target our limited resource to deliver on the public mental health agenda. Health awareness campaigns provide a platform for our team to reach a wide audience to raise awareness of mental health and issues that can impact on mental health. Ultimately our goal was to educate our colleagues and partners working with the public about the relationship between mental health and sleep and provide resources to help promote good sleep hygiene, getting help and learning more.
