Short Bio: I am Dr. Shaira Arinzol, an adult disease specialist and a faculty member at the College of Medicine, Central Philippine University. I have a deep commitment to promoting holistic health. I am also a member of the Philippine College of Lifestyle Medicine. As a lecturer, I impart invaluable knowledge on Sleep Physiology, drawing from Guyton’s Medical Physiology, to first-year medical students. I also actively advocates for the significance of quality sleep in maintaining overall well-being. With a focus on the six pillars of lifestyle medicine, I emphasizes the importance of achieving a balanced work-life status for optimal health.

Activity: Today, March 8, 2024, is my scheduled lecture on sleep physiology for our first-year medical students here at Central Philippine University.

In this lecture, I am honored to highlight the intrinsic value of sleep in fostering our overall health and well-being. As we delve into the intricacies of sleep physiology, it is imperative to recognize its pivotal role in shaping not just our personal lives, but also our capacity to serve as compassionate healers.

Furthermore, I also introduce to my students that will be an upcoming “World Sleep Day, on March 15, 2024, under the theme of “Sleep Equity for Global Health”. As a trainee in lifestyle medicine, I am glad to know that there is also a society valuing the importance of sleep to our over all health.

As medical practitioners, we are acutely aware of the challenges we face in maintaining adequate rest amidst our duties on the frontlines of patient care. However, I implore each of us to reiterate the fundamental truth: that prioritizing sleep isn’t merely a matter of personal comfort, but a vital determinant of our professional efficacy.

Indeed, research consistently demonstrates that sufficient sleep not only enhances our efficiency but also reduces the likelihood of errors and fosters sharper judgment. Therefore, as we lay the groundwork for our medical careers, let us underscore the significance of sleep as an integral component of health.

So I encourage all my students as well as my patients to join me in this mission with you. I want to empower the younger generation of medical professionals to recognize the transformative power of sleep.

This activity may be simple, but, I believe that this could bring difference and better perspective about sleep.
