Short Bio: Who we are:
We’re RCOT, the Royal College of Occupational Therapists. We’ve championed the profession and the people behind it for over 90 years; and today, we are thriving with over 36,000 members. Then and now, we’re here to help achieve life-changing breakthroughs for our members, for the people they support and for society as a whole.

This includes giving members opportunities to learn, research, teach, practice and continuously improve their knowledge and skills. We also work with healthcare commissioners, political leaders and others to position occupational therapy as a solution at the heart of health and social care.

Occupational therapy helps you live your best life at home, at work – and everywhere else. It’s about being able to do the ‘occupations’ you need, want and have to do. That could mean overcoming challenges learning at school, going to work, playing sport or simply doing the dishes.
Occupational therapists see beyond diagnoses and limitations. They focus on hopes and aspirations. They work with you to recommend adjustments to the way you live by looking at the relationship between the activities you do every day, the challenges you’re facing, and your environment. These adjustments are practical, realistic and personal to you, to help you achieve the breakthroughs you need to elevate your everyday life.

Our future:
We have a vision, that people everywhere value the life-changing power of occupational therapy.

To achieve it, we’re raising the profile of occupational therapy, attracting more people to the profession, and helping everyone who needs it get the life-changing therapy they need.

We’re the powerful advocate and high-profile champion that the UK’s occupational therapists deserve. Proudly inclusive, we also welcome and support new generations of occupational therapists and are working to create a profession that reflects the diverse society we work with.

Activity: Lift Up Your Everyday campaign:
Life is about the moments when you are doing something you love, keeping you motivated and well. However, when we’re missing these lifts, perhaps because of the impact of the pandemic or the cost-of-living crisis, life can feel challenging.

That’s why we’re launching this campaign – to help us all take small, positive steps using expert advice from occupational therapists to keep well and lift up our everyday lives.

Lift Up Your Everyday supports anyone who would like to overcome new or existing challenges and ultimately continue to do the things they love and need to do on a day-to-day basis. Occupational therapists have the expertise and knowledge to help people get the most out of life – and we’re bringing a small piece of that knowledge directly to the nation.

Why are we leading this campaign?
We have a vision, that people everywhere value the life-changing power of occupational therapy. One of the ways we can achieve this is by sharing occupational therapists’ advice more widely with the nation.

Our next theme – Sleep: (Summary of intro)
It’s normal for our sleep quality to fluctuate, so don’t panic if you have a few days, or even weeks, of poor sleep. However, if you’ve been having problems sleeping for three months or more, it might be time to seek help, especially if it’s affecting your daily life. We’re here to support you. Occupational therapists can help you work through challenges you’re facing to help you maintain your wellbeing. Speak to a GP for a referral to an occupational therapist or sleep clinic if you need help.
Remember, sleep is when your body and mind heal, rejuvenate, and recharge.
