Activity: The aim was to help bring researchers, health professionals, teachers, and students together around a common cause of Sleep. An educational message was created raising the awareness of World Sleep Day and the importance of Sleep following the 2017 World Sleep Day slogan “Sleep Soundly, Nurture Life”.

Links to further resources were included in the email message from ‘worldsleepday.org‘. For convenience an information sheet was included, in the hope it would be distributed to researchers, health professionals, teachers, and students.

This message was endorsed by the New Zealand branch of the Australasian Sleep Association (NZ ASA), and distributed to 2366 Schools in New Zealand (from Primary through to Secondary age), and also approximately 200 Department across the University of Otago (New Zealand).

Short Bio: Rebecca completed her undergraduate studies in Psychology before joining the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, Dunedin School of Medicine (University of Otago), New Zealand for her postgraduate education. She is now working towards her PhD looking at the prevalence of sleep disordered breathing in children, factors associated with the condition and academic progress of children with sleep disordered breathing. Her supervisors are Associate Professor Barbara Galland from the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, Dr Elizabeth Schaughency from the Department of Psychology and Dr Jill Haszard from the Department of Human Nutrition; University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand.
