Activity: 1. Theoretical-practical workshop “Sleep and Learn: Make Sleep Health a Priority”
Description: 4-hour workshop aimed at teachers and students with neurodevelopmental/neurological disorders (ASD level 2, intellectual disability, Down Syndrome, etc.), from the Labor Education Workshop in Los Palos Grandes, Caracas – Venezuela, which combines interactive activities and practical exercises on the importance of sleep. It addresses sleep hygiene strategies, identification of warning signs and group dynamics to promote healthy habits from school.
Objectives:
– To raise awareness among teachers and students about the relationship between quality sleep and academic performance.
– To provide practical tools to promote healthy sleep routines at home and in the classroom.
– To train in the early detection of possible sleep disorders in children.
2. Interview on Canal i in commemoration of World Sleep Day
Description: 15-minute participation in the health segment of Canal i’s morning news program, on the occasion of World Sleep Day. The importance of sleep in the neurological development of children is explained, tips for parents are shared and frequently asked questions from the audience are answered.
Objectives:
– To disseminate to a mass audience the relevance of sleep-in child neurodevelopment.
– To inform parents and caregivers about simple guidelines to improve the quality of their children’s sleep.
– To encourage early consultation with professionals in case of symptoms of sleep disorders.
3. Pediatric consultation day for the detection of sleep disorders
Description:
Free pediatric consultation day in Merida center in Anaco – Anzoátegui State – Venezuela, where basic sleep evaluation is performed in children from 2 to 16 years old. It includes directed anamnesis, application of screening questionnaires and immediate recommendations.
Objectives:
– Early detection of symptoms suggestive of sleep disorders in the local child population.
– Refer cases of greater complexity to complementary studies (polysomnography, neuropsychological evaluation).
– To educate families on warning signs and simple measures to optimize sleep hygiene at home.
4. Interview in the digital magazine Médicos al Día on sleep disorders in children
Description: Participation in article format in the Médicos al Día platform, where the main sleep disorders affecting the pediatric population (insomnia, obstructive apnea, parasomnias, restless legs syndrome, circadian rhythm disorders, etc.) are discussed in depth. It includes practical recommendations for both health professionals and families.
Objectives:
– To disseminate up-to-date knowledge on the epidemiology and pathophysiology of sleep disorders in children.
– To provide clinical suspicion criteria and screening guidelines to facilitate early detection in pediatric consultation.
– To share non-pharmacological management tools and referral strategies for specialized studies (polysomnography, neuropsychological evaluation).
– To raise awareness among general practitioners and specialists about the importance of integrating sleep assessment in the routine follow-up of child development.
