Dr. Kelly H. Zou, Ph.D., PStat, FASA, is CEO, AI4Purpose Inc. Kel is President, American Statistical Association (ASA)’s New York City Chapter, and Executive Committee Member and Incoming Chair, Caucus of Industry Representatives, ASA, Health Information Technology Advisory Committee, Membership Council, and AI Expert Group Member, AcademyHealth. She is an elected ASA Fellow and an Accredited Professional Statistician. Previously at Pfizer Inc, she was Vice President and Head of Medical Analytics & Insights; Senior Director of Real World Evidence, Group Lead of Methods & Algorithms and Analytic Science Lead; Senior Director of Statistics. She was Head, Global Medical Analytics, Real-World Evidence, and Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Viatris Inc. (merged from Pfizer). Earlier, she was Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School, as well as Director of Biostatistics at its affiliated teaching hospitals. She was Associate Director of Rates at Barclays Capital. She received both MA and PhD degrees in Statistics from the University of Rochester. She completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship at Harvard. Her research interests include health policy, real world evidence, signal detection, and artificial intelligence, with well-over 150 professional articles and 5 books, including a Reuters prize. She was featured as an Outstanding Woman in Data Analytics by Forbes, an Inspirational Women in Statistics & Data Science by Wiley, and an Accomplished Woman in Statistics and Data Science by the American Statistical Association. She was the winner of the Chief Data and Analytics Officers’ Forum’s Future Thinking Award, AI100, Top 50 Data & Analytics Team Award, Top 100 Individual Award, Reuters Events Pharma USA’s Most Valuable Data & Insights Initiative Team Award, and Global Recognition Award. She was a Reuters Trailblazer. She is an editorial board member and judge for Significance, UK Royal Statistical Society, ASA, and Statistical Society of Australia.

Activity: Overview:
Four sets of activities have focused on improving sleep health through AI‑driven sound therapy and digital tools. The digital health project aims to support women experiencing menopausal insomnia by addressing both physical and psychological factors. Its work includes exploring health monitoring, digital health based sleep‑environment adjustments, calming soundscapes, and emotional healing approaches such as inner‑child companionship.
The project also considers the epidemiology of menopausal insomnia, including its high prevalence, its impact on quality of life, and the way symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, anxiety, and circadian disruption contribute to widespread sleep difficulties during the menopausal transition.
Four Specific Activities:
(1) AI4Purpose Idea Lab – Menopausal Insomnia Solution
Global: AI4SoundSleep (formerly SomniaAI) has been developed via the 600-member AI4Purpose Idea Lab to develop and refine its menopause‑focused insomnia solution, exploring sound therapy, emotional support concepts, and adaptive sleep‑environment ideas.
(2) HITLAB Women’s Health Tech Challenge
New York City, United States: The project joined the HITLAB Women’s Health Tech Challenge among 500 companies, gaining visibility in women’s health innovation and gathering expert feedback.
(3) Web Summit Lisbon and Web Summit Vancouver
Europe and Canada, North America: AI4SoundSleep presented at major global events, including Web Summit Lisbon (>71,000 attendees) and Web Summit Vancouver (>20,000 attendees), expanding awareness and connecting with founders, researchers, and early adopters.
(4) Swiss Venture Spotlight
Switzerland and Global: The project was accepted into the Swiss Venture Spotlight, a competitive program featuring hundreds of emerging companies, providing recognition and opening opportunities for collaboration and growth.
Digital Solutions:
(1) Physical Solution: Utilize health monitoring combined with IoT-enabled smart home auto-adjustments to optimize the sleep environment.
(2) Psychological Solution: Foster emotional healing through calming music and inner-child companionship to create a therapeutic and comforting experience.
