Scope of Activity: Individual activity

Activity: Students in the Polysomnography Technology Program participated in an interactive sleep health awareness event designed to educate and inspire members of the broader community. As part of their participation, students created informational tri-fold posters that highlighted key topics such as the importance of healthy sleep habits, the impact of sleep disorders on overall health, and career pathways in sleep medicine. In addition, the program displayed a stand-up educational poster that provided an overview of polysomnography, sleep technology training, and the vital role sleep professionals play in patient care.

The primary goal of this activity was to promote sleep health literacy, increase awareness about the growing need for trained sleep technologists, and strengthen community connections through student-led outreach. On this particular day, a local high school group visited the campus, providing a valuable opportunity for program students to engage directly with younger learners. Through conversation, demonstrations, and question-and-answer interactions, our students introduced high school visitors to foundational sleep concepts, discussed the science behind sleep, and shared personal experiences about pursuing careers in allied health.

This engagement not only supported community education but also helped our students develop communication, leadership, and professional advocacy skills, reinforcing their role as future healthcare educators. The activity fostered curiosity, encouraged dialogue about healthy sleep behaviors among adolescents, and highlighted accessible educational pathways into the field of sleep technology.
