Short Bio: I have been practicing Medicine for more than thirty years. I have started my research experience as an assistant professor of Medicine at University of Miami in 1990. I have worked with other faculties on multiple NIH funded clinical trials in the section of Special Immunology. Later on I started my basic science research at the University of Pittsburg as a fellow in the division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical care Medicine. I was awarded a grant (1995-1997) funded by American Heart Association which evaluated “Smooth muscle-derived nitric oxide-based oxidants as agents of pulmonary microvascular injury”.
I continued my involvement in the clinical research after I started my practice with Palmetto Pulmonary and Bon Secours Health System in Greenville, South Carolina in 1997. This included different treatment options for patients with sleep disordered breathing such as PAP-TAP combination. I serve as a medical director of Sleep Disorder Center for at least 20 years at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System. I am a fellow in The American Academy of Sleep Medicine. I thrive on teaching and educating my patients regarding sleep medicine
Activity: First Activity: I worked with our Marketing team to put together a press release to send out right around or just before the Daylight saving time change to hopefully educate our providers and staff about the importance of sleep and how to manage sudden change in daily schedule
Second Activity: I plan to do a power point presentation on the World Sleep Day. This is geared toward general public who are 55 years or older. Our health system has a program called ” Life Wise ” to help educating that age group regarding different health issues. I will discuss how healthy sleep is essential to all aspects in life and focus on reviewing current research and accepted guidelines endorsed by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine
