Thailand 2016: Sleep Society of Thailand

Activity: On behalf of the Sleep Society of Thailand and the president of our society; Professor Dr. Nanta Maranetra; we are pleased to present our activities on World Sleep Day 2015 in Thailand. As one of WASM delegates, it is our accountability to raise public awareness of good sleep, its disorders and consequences in Thai population. During March 2015, we conducted several activities across the country to expand the knowledge of Thai people on sleep problems under the theme of “When Sleep is sound, Health & Happiness Abound”. These events included brief lectures, interview sections with successfully treated patients, television, and radio programs all of which were announced through traditional (brochures and posters) and digital media.

In central region, the main events were held on March 13th, 2015 at Central Chest Institute of Thailand, Nonthaburi. Dr. Kanlaya panjapornpon and their colleagues gave the lectures on the importance of sleep, sleep disorders, and their treatments. There were 168 participants including nurses, staff faculty, and patients. In the Northeastern region, the events were held on March 13th and 18th, 2015 at Srinagarind hospital, Khon Kaen University’s teaching hospital. Dr. Supawan Laohasiriwong from the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Dr. Kittisak Sawanyawisuth from the Department of Medicine Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University gave talks at Srisaket hospital. There were 80 participants consisting of medical students, nurses, and patients. In the Eastern part of Thailand, the events were held during March 31th and April 3rd, 2015 at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, Chonburi. Dr. Anchana Thongyam and Dr. Darakul Pornsriniyom gave their consultation and video presentation at the hospital. Dr. Anchana Thongyam was also on the television program on sleep education. In the Northern part of Thailand, Assit. Prof. Theerakorn Theerakittikul from the Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Chiang Mai University gave his lecture on Sleep for health care providers. There were 35 attendees in his conference.
