Short Bio: National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) is the major national institution for investigation and protection of health as well as for increasing the level of health of population of Slovenia. Its professional area covers all public health fields from laboratory activities to health promotion and mental hygiene.
Activity: – as part of the European Sleep Awareness Month 2025, we held a Pyjama Day on the initiative of the European Sleep Research Association. We invited partner networks (schools, kindergartens, municipalities, etc.) to participate and held the event on Friday 7 March 2025.
– prepared a press release on 14th March, which we co-created together with experts in Sleep Medicine from Slovenian Sleep Society, representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Faculty of Economics Ljubljana, the Faculty of Arts Maribor, the Slovenian Neuroscience Association Sinapsa, University Medical Centre Ljubljana, Institution of Occupational Safety and the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities. It was published on the website of the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) and distributed to the media and networks of professional colleagues with whom we cooperate.
– organizated free conference »Safety and health at work: sleep as an overlooked factor«. It was organised on World Sleep Day, 14th March 2025, in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities; the National Institute of Public Health; the Slovenian Chamber of Nursing and Midwifery – the Union of Professional Associations of Nurses, Midwives and Health Technicians of Slovenia; and the Slovenian Staffing Association.
As many as 600 people attended an interesting programme, consisting of three different areas: Healthy Sleep, Sleep Disorders and When Fatigue Becomes a Risk to Health and Safety at Work. The content was presented by respected experts in each field and the event was a good partnership.
The conference programme was enriched by the professional materials on the stands of the Sleep, MIRA and Sopa colleagues.
– organized an informative and advisory sleep stand at the World Health Day event at the Novo mesto General Hospital
– participating with materials on healthy sleep at the Cultural Bazaar 2025 stand
– prepared an infographic »Sleep problems – when to take an action?«, which follows the slogan of this year’s World Sleep Day in a popular way. Published on the NIJZ website it was aimed at the general population to help identify sleep disturbers, signs of sleep disorders and appropriate interventions through QR codes
– prepared an infographic »Make Sleep Health a Priority« for more than 550 companies and their employees
– published an article »Make Sleep Health a Priority« on Moja občina portal on the importance of sleep and sleep problems, with recommendations for adjusting to DST with more than 20.000 views
– publication of the article “Let’s give priority to healthy sleep” in the municipal newsletters of Dolenjska and Bela Krajina, which covers 117,000 inhabitants
– prepared a lecture »The power of sleep for the young athlete and recreational user« by a renowned expert and ESRS President, for slovenian primary and secondary school teachers and coaches of sports associations working with young people, so that they can approach them more confidently about the importance of sleep and introduce them to another aspect of a healthy lifestyle besides diet and exercise
– interviews on Radio Robin, Radio Sraka, Radio 1, Radio Kranj, Radio Triglav
– several lectures for various associations (Heart Association, Pensioners’ Association, Stroke Patients’ Association, …)
– published an article »Preparing for the start of daylight saving time« on NIJZ website and coperated with national television and radio RTV Slovenia in Dobro jutro (with more than 30.000 viewers) and Dogodki in odmevi broadcast
– an interview on TV Slovenia’s Good Morning with Healthy Sleep and invitation to World Sleep Day events
– posts on NIJZ social networks about the importance of sleep, activities and recommendations for healthy sleep
