Activity: The project “A Woman’s Sleep” (Um sono de mulher) was born four years ago with the aim of raising awareness about sleep disorders in women and demystifying some cultural concepts surrounding them.

After the release of a book in 2024 (that brought together five stories inspired by real clinical cases, written by five recognized contemporary Portuguese authors, with the support of a sleep medicine specialist, addressing the particularities of women’s sleep) this year, the project continued to pursue its goal of reaching the public and highlighting the importance of sleep in women’s lives, but through a different artistic form: photography. So, the exhibition “When Women Sleep” was created—featuring a collection of 12 photographs by professional photographers Sandra Ventura and Tiago Batista. The photographs portray situations in which anyone can see themselves and come to realize they might be normalizing an unhealthy sleep routine.

Symbolically inaugurated on International Women’s Day, the exhibition opened to the public on World Sleep Day at the Portuguese Parliament (Assembleia da República), where it will remain on display for a month. The goal now is to take the exhibition on tour across different cities in Portugal, reaching as many people as possible.
In addition to this, the Instagram page (https://www.instagram.com/umsonodemulher/?hl=en) remains active, currently with over 1,250 followers, and regularly shares information related to sleep.
