Poland 2025: Michał Harańczyk MD PhD | St. John Paul II Hospital in Kraków

Delegate: Michał Harańczyk MD PhD

Affiliation: St. John Paul II Hospital in Kraków

Short Bio: I currently serve as a consultant cardiologist at the John Paul II Hospital in Krakow, one of the largest cardiology centers in Poland, where I work in the Department of Diagnostic Cardiology. For over a decade, I have specialized in diagnosing and managing OSA, an area that remains at the forefront of my clinical practice. My dedication to this field culminated in the successful defense of my PhD in 2022. My doctoral thesis, titled “Pulmonary Hemodynamics in Sleep Apnea Patients,” was a pioneering project that bridged cardiology and sleep medicine. This work was well-received by both the academic and clinical communities, and it continues to inform my clinical practice and research pursuits.

In line with my commitment to advancing sleep medicine, I completed the ESRS-accredited Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) training program last year, adding a further dimension to my expertise in treating sleep disorders. My contributions to the field also include my membership in the Polish Society of Sleep Research (PTBS), where I actively engage with peers and contribute to ongoing research and discussions.

Beyond my clinical and academic work, I have been deeply involved in the intersection of healthcare and technology. For several years, I have collaborated with Comarch Healthcare, where I help design and develop innovative medical technologies. My role as a medical advisor has allowed me to contribute significantly to the development of various digital health solutions, including mobile health applications and hospital management software. I also serve as the Chief Medical Expert for the Comarch Sleep Polygraph project, overseeing the development of Poland’s first polygraph device, which was successfully certified in the European Union this year. This device offers cutting-edge, accessible diagnostics for sleep-related breathing disorders and represents a significant achievement in the field.

As an educator, I regularly deliver lectures and organize health promotion campaigns aimed at improving public awareness of sleep health and cardiology-related topics.
