Affiliation: Auckland City Hospital Sleep Service
Short Bio: The Auckland Hospital Sleep Service provides publicly funded sleep disorder testing and treatment for sleep apnea. We have a large group of patient whom we provide support and assistance with in regards to their CPAP therapy.
Although we are mostly involved with sleep apnea disorder, we have a large number of patients who also mention to us their problems relating to insomnia and poor sleep quality unrelated to the OSA.
Our goal for World Sleep Day this year was to improve awareness of healthy sleep hygiene, and promote simple changes that people can implement to improve sleep quality.
Activity: For our activity this year we put up some simple educational posters in public areas of the hospital for both staff and patients to see. We also put some of these posters up in our laboratory permanently for our patients to look at when they come in for sleep studies, as well as printing smaller pamphlet-sized flyers for patients to take home in our outpatient clinic.
