Delegate Short Bio: Mohamad Shafiee is an Occupational Therapist with over 12 years of clinical experience, with a specialized focus on sleep and rest in clinical practice. His work integrates sleep management into Occupational Therapy across multiple domains including mental health, chronic pain, antenatal care, and non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

He is an active speaker in Malaysia, delivering CME sessions, workshops, and professional training on sleep health since 2014. As an Official Delegate for World Sleep Day (2021–2026), he actively promotes the integration of sleep assessment and intervention into Occupational Therapy practice nationwide.

Scope of Activity: Individual activity

Activity: In conjunction with World Sleep Day 2026, a “Sleep Free Talk” was conducted via an online platform (Google Meet), specifically targeting Occupational Therapists across Malaysia.

The primary objective of this session was to enhance professional awareness and clinical competency among Occupational Therapists in addressing sleep-related issues within their scope of practice.

The session focused on:

Reframing sleep as a core occupation in Occupational Therapy practice
Understanding the clinical impact of poor sleep on function, participation, and rehabilitation outcomes
Identifying common sleep disturbances encountered in various OT settings (mental health, medical, orthopaedic, and community care)
Introducing practical, evidence-based strategies that can be incorporated into OT interventions
Highlighting the role of Occupational Therapists in sleep assessment and intervention

This activity aimed to strengthen the role of Occupational Therapy in sleep health by equipping practitioners with applicable knowledge and practical approaches that can be translated into clinical settings.

Additionally, the session served as an initial step toward building a more structured awareness and potential network of Occupational Therapists in Malaysia with a focused interest in sleep and rest.
