In conjunction with World Sleep Day 2026, a sleep health awareness programme titled “Rahsia Tidur di Bulan Ramadan & Microsleep – Ancaman Senyap Perjalanan Balik Raya” was conducted to educate participants about the importance of proper sleep, particularly during the fasting month and festive travel period.
The session was delivered by Professor Dr Louis Adaikalam, President of Malaysia Sleep Apnea Association, focusing on the relationship between sleep patterns, fatigue, and road safety.
The programme addressed key topics including:
• The importance of maintaining healthy sleep patterns during Ramadan
• How changes in sleep schedules can affect alertness and cognitive performance
• Understanding microsleep and its dangers while driving
• Recognizing early warning signs of fatigue among drivers
• Practical strategies to improve sleep quality and reduce fatigue risk.
The awareness programme was organized for participants from Kementerian Pengangkutan Malaysia (Ministry of Transport Malaysia – MOT) and aimed to increase understanding of sleep health and its critical role in preventing fatigue-related road accidents.
Through this initiative, participants were encouraged to prioritize adequate rest and responsible travel practices, especially during the Aidilfitri balik kampung travel season when traffic volume across Malaysia significantly increases.
