Delegate: Children’s Public Lecture

Affiliation: Secretariat of the 48th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Sleep Research

Short Bio:

Activity: Japan is internationally recognized as a country with notably short sleep durations, highlighting the urgent need to spread accurate knowledge regarding children’s sleep habits in particular. This lecture was designed to encourage not only parents but also children themselves to learn about and reflect on the importance of good sleep. By providing an opportunity for families to explore healthy sleep practices together, we aim to foster positive sleep habits throughout society.

This event attracted considerable interest across various age groups, welcoming a total of 216 attendees, and concluded with great success. According to post-lecture surveys, approximately 90% of participants expressed they were “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with the session. Moreover, more than half of the families reported noticeable changes in their children’s sleep habits following the lecture, including specific improvements such as “earlier bedtimes” and “reduced use of blue-light devices before sleep.” Parents who participated also reported increased awareness regarding their own sleep habits, with many sharing positive changes such as “going to bed earlier” or “improving sleep environments.”
