Activity: Resource sharing with fellow psychiatrists – ” SLEEPVERSATIONS – Conversations about sleep health ” ( pdf ) . Patients presenting with sleep complaints are frequently referred to psychiatry or general medicine OPDs . The resource material focused on general / specific info related to sleep disorders / sleep health awareness .

Content :

➡️ Relationship between sleep and mental health , underlining the importance of addressing sleep for better mental health and vice-versa .

➡️ Sleep and women’s health – Sleep in PMS , PMDD & Menopause

➡️ Questions comprising the Sleep History ( Age- based sleep requirements ; Overview of sleep disorders, review of medications .
Management / referral to specialists based on the specific sleep disorder ) .

➡️ According to a recent meta-analysis of the studies conducted on Indian data , pooled estimates for prevalence of Sleep disorders found were :- Insomnia 25.7% ; OSA 37.4% and RLS 10.6% . (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40964736/ )

➡️ Assessment tools like the SCI -2 ( SLEEP CONDITION INDICATOR -2 – The ultra-short, two-item version of the SCI can be used to rapidly screen for insomnia in routine clinical practice – asking about being troubled by sleep and the frequency of the complaints, with a SCI-02 score of 2 or less indicating insomnia) / ISI for Insomnia , STOP-BANG for OSA and URGES criteria would be useful in screening the aforementioned commonly prevalent sleep disorders in India .

➡️ Last but not least , asking about sleep ( RUSATED Questionnaire) , discussing sleep hygiene and healthy lifestyle as routine practice, would go a long way in prevention of sleep disorders .

➡️ Analog Lifestyle : In an increasingly digitized world, digital stress / overstimulation are barriers to quality sleep and healthy living .
An analog lifestyle involves deliberately reducing screen time and
re-engaging with physical, creative , offline activities.
Replacing blue-light-emitting devices / moments of digital scrolling with analog hobbies : physical, offline actions — such as journaling, reading physical books, spending time in nature mindfully or crafting can lower stress, enhance creativity, and improve ability to remain present leading to deeper, more restorative sleep and lower anxiety .
