Delegate Short Bio: Dr. Srijithesh PR is a neurologist, stroke specialist and sleep medicine researcher at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru. His work focuses on clinical sleep medicine, neurophysiology, and evidence-based approaches to the diagnosis and management of sleep disorders. He is actively involved in academic teaching, clinical research, and public health initiatives aimed at improving awareness and practice in sleep medicine.

Scope of Activity: Campaign

Activity: As part of World Sleep Day 2026, an institutional scientific and awareness program was conducted at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, to promote evidence-based understanding of sleep and its role in neurological and overall health.

The program was organized by the Department of Neurology, NIMHANS Sleep Disorders Clinic, and Centre for Consciousness Studies, and included expert talks, an interactive panel discussion, and structured awareness activities.

The expert sessions covered key domains in sleep medicine, including multidimensional aspects of sleep health, evidence-based clinical practices, sleep in metabolic disorders, and psychological interventions for sleep disturbances. As part of these sessions, Dr. Srijithesh PR delivered a talk on “Evidence in Sleep Medicine,” emphasizing the importance of integrating scientific evidence into clinical decision-making and improving patient outcomes.

An interactive panel discussion addressed contemporary sleep challenges such as the impact of shift work, mental health, and lifestyle factors. Awareness activities included a poster competition for students and project staff focusing on themes such as sleep hygiene, brain health, and sleep disorders, along with a quick quiz and educational video presentations to enhance engagement and knowledge translation.

The overall objective of the program was to increase awareness of sleep as a fundamental biological function and to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and public understanding.
