Activity: We all love to sleep, and something bothers everyone about sleeping more. This poem about sleep explores people’s complex and often contradictory relationship with sleep. It expresses a deep love for sleep and the desire to rest more, while also acknowledging the many obstacles that prevent restful sleep, such as responsibilities, ambitions, memories, pain, and the relentless passage of time.
The poem captures the universal human experience of fatigue and the struggle to balance the need for sleep with the pressures of daily life. It also touches on the poignancy of sleep as both a refuge and a reminder of life’s fragility, ending with a prayer that the next sleep will not be the last.
In literary terms, the poem uses repetition and simple language to create rhythm and accessibility, making it relatable to everyone.
This poem serves as both a personal reflection and a universal commentary on the essential yet often compromised nature of sleep in contemporary life.
I too love to Sleep More,
But my responsibilities call.
I too love to Sleep More,
Yet my goals stand tall.
I too love to Sleep More,
Work keeps me awake at night.
I too love to Sleep More,
Her thoughts still linger in my mind.
I too love to Sleep More,
Memories that forever nest.
I too love to Sleep More,
But restless dreams like shadows dance.
I too love to Sleep More,
Pain won’t let me rest.
I too love to Sleep More,
My body protests with every test.
I too love to Sleep More,
But Time feels too short for me.
I too love to Sleep More,
And pray that it’s not my last sleep.
