Short Bio:  Dr.N.Ramakrishnan is an American Board Certified Specialist in Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Sleep Medicine & Obesity Medicine and also has a Master’s degree in Medical Management from University of Southern California. He is currently the Director of Critical Care Services at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai and is a Senior Consultant in Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. He is the past Vice Chancellor of Indian College of Critical Care Medicine Dr.Ramakrishnan graduated from Stanley Medical College, Madras and subsequently worked in United Kingdom and USA for over 13 years and returned to India in 2003 as he was keen on ‘making a difference’. He has been instrumental in developing Chennai Critical Care Consultants (www.icuconsultants.com), a private practice group of critical care specialists. Specialized, innovative Tele ICU services are also provided to serve critically ill patients anywhere, anytime (www.inteleicu.com). The group has also successfully established TACT Academy for Clinical Training (www.tact-india.com) which is India’s first simulation based healthcare training center and has won award for innovative concept in healthcare education and also listed for this distinction in Limca Book of Records. Dr. N. Ramakrishnan is the first Board Certified Sleep Specialist to practice in India and established Nithra Institute of Sleep Sciences (www.nithra.com ) in 2004 and is a past President of Indian Sleep Disorders Association. Nithra Institute of Sleep Sciences is India’s first free standing Comprehensive sleep center and has the distinction of being the first Sleep Center to receive quality accreditation from National Accreditation Board of Hospitals & Healthcare Organizations (NABH). He has been honored with fellowship by American College of Physicians, American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Critical Care Medicine, Indian College of Critical Care Medicine and Indian Sleep Disorders Association. He has also received prestigious awards including ‘Best Doctor Award’ from Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, ‘Young Achiever Award’ from Vaishnav Group of Institutions and ‘Vocational Excellence Award’ from Rotary Club. He is a respected teacher and an invited speaker in several national and international medical conferences and has several original research publications and invited articles to his credit. He has also authored four books in Tamil for the public addressing issues relating to ICU, Sleep and Organ Donation. He has received several honors form medical professional societies and was also invited to meet the honorable president of India, Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam who appreciated his contributions in the field of Critical Care & Sleep Medicine.

Activity:  On account of World Sleep Day 2021, Nithra Institute of Sleep Sciences organized online ART Competition on the theme ” ‘Regular Sleep, Healthy Future’ involving students of Primary and Higher Secondary school children as they are the determinants of a bright future of any nation. Students were categorized under the following groups (Group I: Aged 5-8 years; Group II: 9 to 10 years, Group III: 11to 13 years, Group IV: 14- 16years) nearly 200 students actively participated, Winners will be awarded with cash prize and Participation certificate will be given to all the participants.

Activity: Many had sleepless nights due to fear of COVID and uncertainity of future. Many had sleepless nights when they or their near and dear had COVID Not to forget we were all anxiously waiting with more sleepless nights for the COVID Vaccine. Now is time for ‘Regular Sleep, Healthy Future’ as we celebrate World Sleep Day 2021, Nithra has taken initiative to distribute mask and hand sanitizers to the patients & general public and also educated them on the importance of regular hand washing and wearing Mask are essential even after Covid Vaccine.

Activity: March 19, 2020 To mark the day, we from Nithra Institute of Sleep Sciences organized an awareness rally by distributing pamphlets, holding Placards, displaying banner related to Sleep Hygiene measures and also educated the staff and the passengers of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) on Healthy Sleep

Activity: As a part of world sleep day Celebrations, We at Nithra Institute of sleep sciences distributed free plant sapling as a token of healthy future, to our patients and general public.

Activity: It is the time of the year where all the school students in the country will be giving their final exams. The state of apprehension due to the corona pandemic has added on to the already existing stress on the little minds, especially for those who will be giving their board exams. On occasion of World Sleep Day the team at Nithra has created video content especially designed for students on the importance of good sleep and nutrition during these times and how they can improve their existing routine. All these activities aim at upholding the slogan chosen by the World Sleep Society this year- Regular Sleep, Healthy Future.
