Short Bio: The Department of Pulmonary Medicine has been running a sleep disorders service since 15 years. We have 2 full-fledged Level 1 Sleep labs and have a dedicated Sleep Clinic twice a week .We screen at least 20 patients with Sleep Disorders every week and perform about 50-60 sleep studies a month. We have successfully executed research projects in OSA and RLS which have been presented at various international conferences like the World Sleep Society Congressand the ERS congress. We have about 20 publications in sleep medicine till date and are mentoring post-doctoral and PhD students in sleep research.
Activity: On the occasion of WORLD SLEEP DAY, we held an awareness program on healthy sleep and common sleep disorders for consultants, nurses and hospital staff. This included the following:
1.A talk by Dr.Uma maheswari on NORMAL SLEEP, SLEEP HYGIENE, COMMON SLEEP DISORDERS AND REFERRAL GUIDELINES TO A SLEEP DISORDERS UNIT
2.We also disseminated information on sleep hygiene culled from the WSD toolkit.
3. We conducted an online survey on knowledge and beliefs in sleep as part of the awareness event, which had about 650 respondents.
4. We had also displayed information on snoring and sleep, sleep hygiene and showcased our research posters on the folowing topics: OSA and cognition, RLS in pregnancy and CPAP compliance in OSA
