Activity: People worldwide have been sleeping worse since the great pandemic. Hungarian research confirms these international experiences. Changes in lifestyle and the emergence of new devices are also impacting sleep. The international scientific world is on the brink of significant changes in both sleep medicine and sleep culture. New technologies, procedures, and methods have come within reach, marking the beginning of a health culture based on new perspectives.
More than seventy countries have joined the global event known as World Sleep Day 2026, held annually on the Friday before the Spring Equinox—this year, March 13th. In Hungary, researchers, doctors, healthcare professionals, institutions, and companies have joined the World Sleep Society’s call: Sleep Well, Live Better!
“Hungary is also contributing to the international call: let us help people ensure their nightly sleep contributes as much as possible to preserving their health,” emphasized György G. Németh, President of the Hungarian Sleep Association. At the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, new research was summarized during an international conference, with a special focus on treating sleep issues and introducing quality options that support proper sleep.
The 2026 Hungarian Sleep Report was published, and the winners of the Sleepfriendly Program were introduced. International sleep organizations consider the Hungarian Sleep Association’s activities in promoting sleep health awareness to be outstanding. This was highlighted by Professor Diego Garcia-Borreguero, Director of the International Sleep Research Institute. The world-renowned sleep researcher was elected an honorary member of the Hungarian Sleep Association and announced that he would actively support the field of sleep medicine in Hungary.
The 2026 Sleepfriendly quality certifications were awarded to: Sleepfriendly Company – Zepter International Ungarn; Sleepfriendly Product – Cardo Hungary; Sleepfriendly Hotel – CPI Mamaison Hotel Chain Bridge Budapest, Spirit Hotel Thermal Spa Sárvár, and Grand Hyatt Bali, Nusa Dua.
