Short Bio: Professor Nargiz Nachkebia received her PhD and Dr.Scieces, at the Ivane Beritashvili Institute of Physiology of the Georgian National Academy of Science. She held positions of Junior Research Scientist, Senior Research Scientist, Deputy Director, and Director at the Ivane Beritashvili Institute of Physiology. Since 2011 she has been the head of the Lab Neurobiology of Sleep-wakefulness Cycle. In 2017 she was elected as the chairwoman of the Scientific Council at Ivane Beritashvili Center of Experimental Biomedicine. Her research interests include: the problems of neurophysiological and neurochemical mechanisms of the sleep-wakefulness cycle; the search for the new cellular targets involved in the pathophysiology of sleep disorders and their possible causal involvement in some psycho-neurological diseases and pathological states. She is an editor of four books (a compilation of selected articles) two of which are published by Nova Science Publishers Inc. New York USA, and an author of more than 70 scientific articles published in Georgian and English.

Activity: On March 19, 2025, Professor Nargiz Nachkebia, Head of the Neurobiology of the Sleep-Wakefulness Cycle Lab and a delegate from Georgia, delivered a public lecture titled “Make Healthy Sleep a Priority” at the Ivane Beritashvili Center of Experimental Biomedicine in Tbilisi to commemorate World Sleep Day 2025.
The lecture was held on March 19 to ensure greater audience participation following public school and university holidays (March 8–16)in Georgia. As a result, attendees included scientists from the Ivane Beritashvili Center of Experimental Biomedicine and other scientific institutions, as well as high school and university students.
The presentation emphasized three key messages of World Sleep Day 2025, providing valuable insights into the importance of sleep for overall health and reinforcing the need to prioritize healthy sleep habits. Students actively engaged in discussions after the lecture, reflecting a strong interest in the topic.
