Activity: Beijing, China – March 21, 2025 – The 25th World Sleep Day in China was marked by a grand theme launch at the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) Auditorium. Hosted by the China Sleep Research Society, the event centered on the theme “Prioritize Sleep Health,” bringing together academicians, industry leaders, and Olympic champions to discuss scientific advancements in sleep health and strategies for national action. Director Ni from the CAST Department of Science Popularization, along with other officials, attended and delivered remarks. The online live stream attracted nearly 40,000 viewers, highlighting the public’s heightened concern for sleep health.

1. Academicians Lead Efforts to Build a Scientific Defense for Sleep Health
Professor Huang Zhili, Chairman of the China Sleep Research Society, announced the annual theme and released the “White Paper on Sleep of Chinese Residents.” Data revealed that in 2024, 95% of Chinese residents averaged only 6.83-6.85 hours of sleep, with bedtime generally occurring after midnight, significantly below international health standards. Professor Huang emphasized, “People who exercise regularly have significantly better sleep quality compared to those who exercise less. Social exercise can improve sleep satisfaction by 23%, and scientific exercise should be an important approach to sleep intervention.”

Academicians Lu Lin, Han Demin, and Wang Chen analyzed the frontiers of sleep medicine from the perspectives of brain science, respiratory health, and public health. Academician Han Demin pointed out, Sleep disorders have been included in the global major chronic disease prevention and control system, and a ‘prevention-screening-diagnosis-treatment’ full-chain management model needs to be established. Professor Han Fang, co-chair of the World Sleep Society, proposed that Chinese sleep medicine should seize opportunities, strengthen international cooperation, carry out sleep science popularization activities aligned with China’s social development, and leverage digital platforms to expand the reach of World Sleep Day, serving grassroots sleep medical institutions across China and allowing more people to enjoy the happiness brought by sleep health.

2. Technological Empowerment and Innovative Solutions Showcase
Gong Yuansong, Vice President of Huawei Sports and Health BG, demonstrated the new generation of wearable technology, whose multi-parameter fusion algorithm continuously enhances sleep staging capabilities. The addition of HRV monitoring features can predict potential health risks. Dr. Fan Fangfang from Maidong Shukang shared insights on the role of artificial intelligence in sleep products.

Professor Zhang Bin from Southern Medical University introduced the current status and prospects of digital insomnia treatment. He provided a detailed explanation from five aspects: digital definition and principles of insomnia, application and promotion, assessment and treatment, research and development design, and health economics. This provided new ideas and methods for applying digital sleep diagnosis and treatment models in the future development of sleep medicine.

3. National Action to Build a New Ecosystem of Sleep Health
The event also saw the simultaneous release of the “14th Five-Year Plan Postgraduate Textbook for General Higher Education – Sleep Medicine,” filling the gap in training high-level sleep medicine professionals in China. Olympic champion Li Yuehong launched the “Golden Sleep Exercise Plan,” advocating the health concept of “scientific exercise + regular work and rest.” Tang Guohai, Chairman of Qisheng Technology, announced that the company would donate intelligent sleep monitoring equipment to support community screenings.

This launch marks a new phase in China’s sleep health initiative, characterized by “science first, technology-driven, and national participation,” injecting strong momentum into the construction of a Healthy China.
