Delegate: Vanessa Hamilton
Delegate Short Bio: Vanessa Hamilton is Healthy Living Facilitator/Registered Dietitian with the Health Promotion and Community Development department in Prairie Mountain Health, one of five regional health authorities in Manitoba, Canada. Vanessa works with communities, organizations, and groups and provides them with the tools and support they need to take care of their health and wellbeing. Health Promotion isn’t just about telling people what to do – it’s about creating environments, communities, and policies that make the healthy choice the easier choice. Vanessa has spent the last several years advocating for safe sleep promotion without pills and building capacity within the region.
Scope of Activity: Individual activity
Activity: A sleep promotion tool kit was created that includes an engaging and interactive activity (either used as jeopardy style or trivia), facilitator notes, and resources for participants. The target populations include teens (to be used at teen health clinics, class room presentations) and adults (informal presentations for low literacy, vulnerable adults as well as a fun workplace wellness activity). The toolkit builds capacity within the region in which Health Promotion and Community Development colleagues and other Prairie Mountain Health programs (i.e. Addictions and Mental) can use within their own communities.
The goals of the sleep promotion tool kit include:
1. Increase knowledge of healthy sleep
2. Identify factors that help or hurt sleep
3. Build awareness of personal sleep habits
4. Learn practical sleep strategies
5. Build capacity for health care and service providers to advocate for safe sleep promotion within the region
The activity is being used at a workplace as part of their workplace wellness week and World Sleep Day will be mentioned/promoted on March 10th, 2026
Location: Brandon, Manitoba
Date of Activity: March 10th, 2026
