Activity: Throughout the year, we collect Pan-Canadian stories from individuals facing sleep challenges and publish their narratives along with data-driven insights on the Canadian Sleep Society’s website: https://css-scs.ca/sleep-information/share-your-sleep-story/?trk=feed-detail_main-feed-card_reshare_feed-article-content . The stories are published monthly in French and English. We aim to raise awareness and advocate for a meaningful change.
Stories hold the power to transform numbers into relatable narratives that may resonate both with policymakers and society. They can provide contextual information, persuade, and drive collective action. Thus, we assume a reflective approach where we focus on what the society knows (engaging with them and listening to their needs and experiences) rather than what they don’t (pure dissemination and education of scientific facts.
Through our social media page, “The Sleep Advocates”, these stories are disseminated across various social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram, X and Facebook.
Each story is a movement that follows a path in the following month. Each story release is followed by three posts: one per week—over the subsequent month, which is featured by our partner social media networks to amplify the reach of these initiatives.
Looking ahead, we aim to contribute articles on popular platforms such as The Conversation Canada and pitching stories to publications like the Montreal Gazette, which can explore common insights from diverse stories.
Future aims involve writing policy briefs, and creating a compendium of stories in a physical story book.
