Short Bio: Traumatic brain injury and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias are extremely common. People with these conditions also often suffer from sleep disorders, further compromising brain health. Whether or not a person is predisposed to adverse outcomes depends on age, health status, and a variety of social equity parameters, including gender. This emphasizes the need to consider the intersection between a person, their environment, and life circumstances in the prevention, treatment, and care of conditions affecting brain health.
Dr. Tatyana Mollayeva leads the BRIDGE Lab, based at the KITE Research Institute at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, University Health Network (UHN) affiliated with the University of Toronto. The lab focuses on understanding brain health throughout the lifespan and exploring the role of equity in the course of neurological disorders and injuries. The goal is to advance person-centered prevention, care, and rehabilitation.

Activity: Sleep health encompasses measurable characteristics of sleep that are most clearly associated with physical, mental, and neurobehavioral well-being. Multiple dimensions of sleep across levels of analysis have been associated with health and functional outcomes and are included in definitions of sleep health.
To support this year’s theme of Making Sleep Health a Priority, we developed an infographic to bring awareness of students to the importance of sleep health. We conducted a short survey with students from the BRIDGE Lab who expressed interest in the initiative, to reflect on and share their experiences with prioritizing sleep health. Their responses, in addition to published research on the topic, are reflected in the content of the infographic.
To disseminate widely, we posted the infographic on the BRIDGE Lab website, shared it on LinkedIn, and added the link to our email signature for the month of March. The infographic is openly available at https://heyzine.com/flip-book/world-sleep-day-2025.
