Delegate Short Bio: Prof. Ivan Staikov, MD, PhD is a Medical Director of Acibadem City Clinic Tokuda University Hospital and Head of Clinic of Neurology and Sleep Medicine. He is a member of the board of directors of the management of Adcibadem City Clinic Tokuda University Hospital and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Clinical Trials Center, Acibadem City Clinic University Hospital Tokuda.
Prof. I. Staikov is a Chairman of the Specialized Committees for the treatment of patients suffering from Multiple Sclerosis, Epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease at Acibadem City Clinic Tokuda University Hospital. Prof. Staikov is a deputy chairman of the Neurosomnology section of the Bulgarian society of neurology.
His clinical interests include cerebrovascular disease, sleep-wake disorders, interventional neurology, emergency and critical care neurology, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson disease, Alzheimer’s disease, ultrasonography of cerebral circulation.
He is a member of: Bulgarian Society of Neurology, The European Commission for the Certification of Stroke Centres of the European Stroke Organisation – 2015-2019, Member of the World Sleep Society, Member of World Stroke Organization and European Stroke Organization, Member of the editorial boards of 3 scientific journals.
He is the author of more than 350 scientific papers and the leader of several research projects, including “Investigating the architectonics of sleep under extreme climatic conditions” in the National Polar Research Program of the Institute for Polar Research in Bulgaria.

Scope of Activity: Campaign

Activity: On March 21, 2026 Clinic of Neurology and Sleep Medicine at Acibadem City Clinic Tokuda University Hospital, under the leadership of Prof. Ivan Staykov, MD, PhD held its seventh scientific conference dedicated to World Sleep Day, which has established as an integral part of the health events calendar in Bulgaria and has sparked the interest of healthcare professionals from various fields of medicine.
Traditionally, the event is organized under the auspices of the Section of Neuroscience and Sleep Medicine of the Bulgarian Society of Neurology, with the special participation of leading specialists in the fields of neurology, psychiatry, pulmonology, and endocrinology in Bulgaria.

Over 140 physicians, representatives of healthcare organizations, medical and pharmacy students, and representatives of pharmaceutical companies actively participated in the event. The Section of Neuroscience and Sleep Medicine of the Bulgarian Society of Neurology was represented by its Chair – Assoc. Prof. P. Kolev, Vice-Chair – Prof. I. Staykov and Dr. N. Neykov – the section’s secretary.

In front of a full auditorium at Acibadem City Clinic Tokuda University Hospital, clinical cases and findings from recent studies on sleep and wakefulness disorders were presented, including narcolepsy, hypersomnia and headaches presented in the context of sleep disorders, polysomnographic changes in psychiatric conditions, and sleep apnea from the perspectives of neurology, endocrinology, and pulmonology.
The event consisted of two scientific sessions—the first dedicated to insomnia and narcolepsy, the second to sleep apnea, sleep disorders and neurodegeneration. Following each session, active scientific discussions took place, highlighting the main topics that need to be further developed and presented in the conference proceedings in 2027.
The event was free of charge for physicians, other medical professionals, and medical and pharmacy students, and it also generated broad public interest and media coverage.
Dozens of media covered the event, including two national televisions, the national news agency, news and healthcare websites, specialized healthcare web platforms, and social media. The event was actively promoted through personal media appearances by representatives of the Clinic of Neurology and Sleep Medicine, personalized digital invitations to rectors of medical universities, deans of medical and pharmacy faculties, student associations, and physicians from various medical specialties, including communication about the event within the premises of ACC Tokuda University Hospital through printed informational materials.
For over 15 years now, the Sleep Medicine Laboratory, under the leadership of Prof. I. Staikov, MD has been operating at the Clinic of Neurology and Sleep Medicine at Acibadem City Clinic Tokuda University Hospital—recognized as a leader specializing in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with sleep and wakefulness disorders, including snoring and sleep apnea, chronic pain syndrome and sleep disorders, anxiety-depressive syndrome and sleep disorders, stroke and sleep-related breathing disorders, restless legs syndrome, narcolepsy, and hypersomnia.
