Short Bio: Prof. Ivan Staikov, MD is a Medical Director of Acibadem City Clinic Tokuda University Hospital and Head of Clinic of Neurology and Sleep Medicine.
Prof. Staikov is a deputy chairman of the Neurosomnology section of the Bulgarian society of neurology.
He is a member of the board of directors of the management of Adcibadem City Clinic Tokuda University Hospital and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Clinical Trials Center, Acibadem City Clinic University Hospital Tokuda.
Prof. I. Staikov is the Chairman of the Specialized Committees for the treatment of patients suffering from Multiple Sclerosis, Epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease at Acibadem City Clinic Tokuda University Hospital.
His clinical interests include cerebrovascular disease, sleep-wake disorders, interventional neurology, emergency and critical care neurology, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson disease, Alzheimer’s disease, ultrasonography of cerebral circulation.
He is a member of: Bulgarian Society of Neurology, The European Commission for the Certification of Stroke Centres of the European Stroke Organisation – 2015-2019, Member of the World Sleep Society, Member of World Stroke Organization and European Stroke Organization, Member of the editorial boards of 3 scientific journals.
He is the author of more than 350 scientific papers and the leader of several research projects, including “Investigating the architectonics of sleep under extreme climatic conditions” in the National Polar Research Program of the Institute for Polar Research in Bulgaria.

Activity: On 15 March 2025, leading experts in the fields of neurology, psychiatry, endocrinology and ENT will discuss sleep disorders, during the Scientific and Practical Conference dedicated to World Sleep Day 2025. The event will be held under the auspices of the Section of Neurosomnology of the Bulgarian Society of Neurology, and will be hosted by the Acibadem City Clinic Tokuda University Hospital.
The conference is being held under the motto of this year’s World Sleep Day – Make Sleep Health a Priority.
The main goal of the event is to celebrate World Sleep Day 2025 by reminding that sleep health is equal in importance to healthy diet and physical activity for everyone’s well-being.
Speakers at the multidisciplinary event will be leading experts from the country’s most prestigious hospitals.
During the scientific forum will be presented results of recent research on sleep disorders in the context of parasomnias and epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, anxiety and depression, sleep disorders in psychiatry and in patients with metabolic syndrome. Recent research on the impact of sleep apnea in patients with diabetes and ischemic stroke will also be detailed, as will the use of botulinum toxin in neurological disorders.
The event will be held with free admission for medical professionals, medical and pharmacy students, and representatives of healthcare organizations and institutions.

After the event on March 15,2025 | Scientific and Practical Conference dedicated to World Sleep Day 2025

“Do you have problems with sleep?” – to be a question in medical consultations of patients, suggested leading doctors from four medical specialties, during a scientific conference dedicated to World Sleep Day 2025, which was held under the motto “Make Sleep Health a Priority.”

The event provoked the interest of more than 100 specialists in neurology, with a narrow specialization in sleep medicine, electrophysiology, epileptology, as well as psychiatrists, emergency medicine and ENT specialists practicing in Bulgaria and Germany. Among the participants in the conference there were also specialist physicians, medical students and representatives of patient organizations.

The event discussed sleep and wakefulness disorders in the context of multiple sclerosis, parasomnias and epilepsy, anxiety and depression, metabolic syndrome and diabetes, ways to treat sleep apnea -CPAP or surgery, the use of botulinum toxin in neurological disorders and more.

Following each scientific panel, a wide-range discussion on sleep and wake disorders was held with questions and speeches from physicians in the audience.

Presenters of the conference were Assoc. Prof. P. Kolev – Chairman of the Direction of Neurosomnology at the Bulgarian Society of Neurology and Prof. Dr. I. Staikov – Vice-Chairman of the Direction of Neurosomology.
