Activity: Medical University “Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov”- Varna organizes for the ninth consecutive time a celebration of the World Sleep Day. It is carried out together with the University Medical and Dental Center, the Bulgarian Society of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Snoring, and the World Sleep Association.
The celebrations will take place in the Affiliates of Medical University – Varna in Shumen, Veliko Tarnovo and Sliven.
In the period March 04 – March 21, 2025 free diagnostic and consultative examinations of people with sleep problems are planned to be held on the territory of the University Medical and Dental Center, Faculty of Dental medicine, Medical University – Varna.
More than 100 patients were encompassed. All filled in specialized sleep questionnaires (Berlin questionnaire, ESS, STOP-Bang), were examined by an ENT specialist, physician in dental medicine, consults with cardiologists, pulmonologists, neurologists, endocrinologists were made as well. Patients were enrolled to receive and are receiving a free polygraphic sleep study, with a written report of the case and presence or absence of SOSAS. Patients’s polygraphic studies will continue even after the end of the planned campaign dates, so as to be able to aid all enrolled patients in need.
On March 10, 2025 from 16:30 the traditional yearly scientific conference on the problems of sleep was organized at Faculty of Dental medicine, Medical University – Varna. More than 70 participants took place in the Symposium. Renowned lecturers in the field of obstructive sleep apnea, snoring, breathing disorders during sleep, from 8 countries worldwide spoke at the forum.
On March 19, 2025 prof. Milkov was invited as an official guest to Kindergarten Dr. Petar Beron in Varna to participate in children’s celebration of World Sleep Day. All children showed keen interest on the topic of sleep and participated actively in the event with songs, poems, theatrical presentations. All parents have signed written informed consent forms and have allowed their children to take part in the event and to have pictures taken.
Varna Municipality took part in the initiatives as well. Together with Medical University – Varna, the work in the field of early prophylaxis and prevention, screening and detection of sleep diseases affecting children and adolescents is continued.
