Short Bio: Marco Aurélio Ubiali is a neurologist and neurosurgeon with over 40 years of experience in neurological health. Graduated from the Universidade Federal de Minas (UFMG) in Belo Horizonte in 1975, Dr.Ubiali holds a specialist title in Neurosurgery from the Brazilian Society of Neurosurgery and in Neurology from the Federal Council of Medicine. His academic journey also includes a specialization in Microsurgery at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany, and an Sleep Medicine course at the Universidade de São Paulo (USP), in Ribeirão Preto.

Dr. Ubiali is one of the pioneers in the treatment of sleep disorders and a regional reference in this field. He founded and manages the “Laboratório do Sono de Franca – www.sonofranca.com.br”, the first sleep clinic in the region, offering advanced exams and treatments with a patient-centered approach to well-being.

To celebrate World Sleep Day, a series of actions were carried out by the delegate Marco Aurélio Ubiali with the goal of raising awareness among the general population and healthcare professionals about the importance of sleep for overall health and quality of life.
We worked with a professional Press Officer to help us to receive wide media coverage, with articles, interviews and podcasts published across various platforms. These publications highlighted the importance of World Sleep Day, promoted campaign activities, and provided educational content on sleep disorders, engaging a broad audience.

1. Articles published in the press

One of the most important tools we secured for promoting World Sleep Day was the publication of several news articles and reports in the local press, announcing the date and highlighting the importance of sleep. Among these, we particularly highlight Sampi, the region’s leading digital news outlet, known for its strong presence and leadership across multiple cities in the area. Exclusive interviews were granted to Jornal A Verdade, one of the leading local newspapers and Orcon Press, a digital newspaper focused on healthcare topics. These interviews aimed to educate the community about the consequences of poor sleep and encourage a more proactive approach to sleep health.

4. Free workshop for healthcare professionals

A free workshop was offered to healthcare professionals, focusing on the significance of sleep and its impact on both physical and mental health. The event had the participation of psychologists, pharmacists, physical therapists, and other health professionals, who expressed interest in the topic. The workshop was also streamed on social media such Kwai and Instagram.

5. Social media outreach

The campaign also had a presence on social media (Facebook, Instagram and website), featuring informative posts, videos, and event promotions.
This digital strategy played an important role in reaching a younger demographic, reaching more than 4.000 organic views, demonstrating the interest of people and increasing online engagement with messages about healthy sleep habits.

6. Administration of the Berlin Questionnaire to dozens of patients

During March, the Berlin Questionnaire, a widely used screening tool for sleep apnea risk, was administered to dozens of patients at partner clinics. This initiative aimed to identify signs apnea and to guide patients on the need for further specialized evaluation. The objective of this initiative was to provide an overview of sleep disorders and to encourage patients to discuss these issues with their doctors.

7. Distribution of 5,000 informational leaflets in over 40 clinics

A total of 5,000 informational leaflets were produced and distributed in more than 40 clinics across the city. These materials offered practical guidance on sleep hygiene and helped patients recognize signs of possible sleep disorders, expanding access to vital information throughout the community. 8. Planned Next Steps – Lectures for Undergraduate and Graduate Students

As part of the campaign’s educational efforts, Dr. Marco Aurélio Ubiali will deliver lectures aimed at raising awareness among students about the importance of sleep for physical, mental, and emotional health. Topics will include the role of sleep in memory, learning, emotional balance, and overall well-being.
The first confirmed lecture will take place on May 3rd at UNESP – Universidade Estadual Paulista, one of the most prominent universities in Brazil. Two additional lectures are planned at the following institutions, with dates to be confirmed: Faculty of Medicine – Cruzeiro do Sul and Graduate Program – UNIFACEF
These sessions offer an excellent opportunity to engage with future professionals, encouraging healthy habits early in their academic journey and emphasizing sleep as a key pillar of overall health.
