Activity: “Sleep equity for global health”

“Sleep Justice for Global Health” is the motto of this year’s World Sleep Day. This international initiative, launched by the World Sleep Society, will take place this year on 15 March 2024. From a global health perspective, everyone must have access to adequate sleep, regardless of location, socio-economic status, environmental conditions, social structures, interpersonal relationships or individual beliefs. Together with eating, drinking and physical activity, sleep is one of the basic existential needs of human beings. In addition to its restorative function, sleep serves to cleanse the brain and replenish energy stores. Sleep also has an important function in supporting memory and learning. It strengthens the immune system and promotes brain health by removing waste products from the brain. Especially in times of our 24/7 society with the attributes of absolute availability and the need to function constantly, sleep is becoming more and more restricted. This makes it all the more important to eliminate the inequalities in sleep health in order to improve the health of the population worldwide.

In this context, a panel discussion on the topic of sleep equity will take place on 18 March 2024 in the Kepler Salon of the JKU Linz. Under the motto: Why sleep is political, the JKU Linz Sleep Medicine team invites you to a panel discussion.
