Short Bio: The Department of Respiratory and sleep medicine at Blacktown Hospital, is a multidisciplinary team of respiratory and sleep physicians, clinical nurse consultants, sleep scientist and lung scientists who collaborate to manage sleep issues while promoting and educating staff and patients on the importance of good sleep.
This year for World Sleep Day, we showcased our current work as well raise awareness for sleep health. Our focus this was obstructive sleep apnoea due to a growing number of incidences in our district. Representatives from various companies Resmed, Lowenstien, F&P and Sonomed were on hand to provide information and education on their products. A sleep consultant was available for expert advice and education. Although organized within hospital, the event was attended by many members of the local community.
Activity: 1. Awareness morning hosted in hospital main atrium, making sleep health a priority
2. Information table with booklets on different areas of sleep issues and how to manage them
3. Demonstration of home sleep study and what is required for patients
4. QR code on shirts available for animation on sleep health for children. Link below;
5. Sleep physicians on hand for the entire activity to discuss sleep health for patients, staff and visitors.
6. Provided CPAP assessment via instant download from patient’s CPAP machine.
7. Fun games on quantity of sleep required and sleep hygiene for quality of sleep.
8. Activity: setting up a CPAP machine and mask fit on mannequin.
9. Prizes were sponsored by medical rep companies, donors.
10. Raffle for sleep hygiene hamper donated by medical rep companies.
