Portugal 2016: Portuguese Association of Chronobiology and Sleep Medicine and the Portuguese Society of Hypertension

The Portuguese Association of Chronobiology and Sleep Medicine and the Portuguese Society of Hypertension delivered a press release about World Sleep Day, with a special focus regarding the association between disturbed sleep, hypertension and cardiovascular risk, namely mortality.

Several news items were released during this day and will continue during the next days regarding this important issue of alertness and prevention. Please take a look at the following links (in Portuguese):

One other important issue was a short video made by myself (as the president of APCMS) and Prof. Mesquita Bastos (president of the Portuguese Society of Hypertension) alerting for the severe consequences of a “bad” sleep to metabolic and cardiovascular function, namely hypertension and early mortality.

Finally, two months ago we proposed to some teachers of kindergarten to ask children what they think sleep or sleeping is about.  They should express by their own words and in a drawing. The final result of this works (childrens of 4 and 5 years old) were exposed in the main hall of Hospital SOERAD where tomorrow will occur the World Sleep Day Symposium.

Here is a part of that exposition – more or less one third (drawings and respective meaning according to children):
