Short Bio: Dr. M.A. Komolafe is Consultant Adult Neurologist, Dept. of Medicine, Neurology Unit. Convener, Obafemi Awolowo University Sleep Research Team.

Activity: We conducted seminars in a total of four schools. During each day, we gave a general talk on sleep. A multidisciplinary seminar for hospital workers and the General public is planned for Wednesday, March 28
-Thursday March 8th Moremi High School:
-Friday March 9th Saint Mulumba Cathoilc School: Dr Olorunmoteni gave a talk to the students on sleep emphasizing the importance of sleep and the adverse effect of prolonged sleep deprivation. Questions were taken from the students, they are listed below.

Q1: Is there a side effect of not sleeping on a bed?
Q2: If a person loves reading at night and still meets the sleep need will it affect the person?
Q3: Can night reading result in sleep disorder?
Q4: How can one satisfy the sleep requirement if one has to attend vigils frequently?
Q5: Is good to play music while sleeping?
-Tuesday March 13th Eleve Gifted Minds School: A talk on sleep was given to the pupils by Dr. M.A. Komolafe and the teachers alongside. The school has a population of 120 pupils and virtually all of them were present at the seminar, there was a good response from the pupils and questions were entertained. Some of the questions are as follows:
Q1: why do you have bad dreams when you sleep?
Q2: why do you sleep early and still wake up late?
Q3: is it compulsory to meet the sleep needs of 10-11 hours for children between 6-12 years?
The teacher complained of pupils sleeping in the classroom which resulted from them watching Television late into the night they thus suggested that the parents/guardians be enlightened on the sleep need.
After the talk the pupils were taught a sleep rhyme which states ‘Early to bed Early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise’.
– Wednesday March 14th OAU International School: The team arrived the school where every student and member of staffs were gathered at the morning assembly and a brief talk on the importance of and need for sleep, the long-time effect of sleep deprivation and why not to sleep with gadgets around. The following questions were raised after the seminar:
Q1: what are the effects (if any) of take sleep pills when it is difficult to get sleep?
Q2: how can one get a good sleep when one wakes up frequently to urinate at night?
-Thursday March 15th Adventist Secondary School: A brief lecture was given to the students in the presence of their teachers who benefitted greatly from the lecture. Some of the questions posed at the speaker Dr. Olorunmoteni are:
Q1: how can one sleep well when the person sleeping next to you snores?
Q2: how can one get enough sleep and still study at night?
Q3: what is the benefit of naps?
Q4: how can one sleep without snoring?
Q5: how can one sleep without having neck pain?
Q6: what is the best sleep position?
