GUATEMALA 2013: HOSPITAL GENERAL SAN JUAN DE DIOS

The Hospital General San Juan de Dios released the following press release:

This Sleep Disorders program aimed to bring about a significant improvement in sleep problems manifested by patients attending outpatient General Hospital San Juan de Dios, in the No. 35 clinical neuropsychology area, based on a multidisciplinary professional treatment.

We give attention on Mondays and Thursdays from 2:30 onwards during the months of March to November 2012, serving a total of 53 people, 18 men and 35 women ranging between 22-79 years old.

The study was based on application of techniques Congnitivs Behavioral and as a measurement instrument was applied Epworth Sleep Scale which evaluates the different stages of sleep and consists of items, the Beck Depression Questionnaire consisting of 21 items, the scale Hamilton Anxiety consisting of 17 items and the application of the Mini-Mental assessing the patient’s mental status deteriores identifying cognitive functions and consists of 11 items.

We worked with support groups through motivational workshops and reeducation once a month, which were attended by an average of 25 patients, taught by specialists in the field (Arla Dr. Stokes, Dr. Oscar Morales and Dr. Lilian Rojas).

He held various extracurricular activities, such as: Visit to Hospital Psychiatric Neuroscience Congress, visit the area of EEG, Participation in the International Day Walk for Epilepsy, Pathology view area.

For the success of the activities were used blankets, flyers, posters and leaflets.

This year we are just starting with the same program doing improvements with some more professionals that joing us for helping in this successful program because there is not another hospital working in sleep desorders in Guatemala. Thanks for let us have part of your valuable efforts.
